Between Experiment Form and Culturalism: Butoh in History and Contemporary Practice is a groundbreaking symposium addressing the practice, cultural impact and history of the butoh dance form. The symposium itself sets the precedent of being the first academic symposium on butoh to be held at a North American university - University of Southern California Los Angeles. The site serves as a guide for to talks and performances for an international array of participants. It also serves as a record of the symposia. As a practicing butoh dancer the whole of the symposium proved to be an incredibly culturally affirming experience.
Art direction, UI/UX design, web development
I based a portion of the basic branding approach in styles which were already extant in many of UCLA's digital products. The site's distinctiveness was drawn from butoh's position in the culture as an avant-garde dance form. All of the navigation and functionality was designed to maximize symposium participant access to schedules, registration and records.
